So often, we parent using "shortcuts" we pile on the blankets. When a child misbehaves, our shortcut is to scold or threaten. When they struggle in school, our shortcut is to demand higher marks. We are so focused on these immediate, reactive fixes that we forget the real task: to build a warm, supportive, and understanding environment around them.

A "shortcut" suffocates a child's spirit, just as too many blankets make it hard to breathe. But when the room is warm when the home environment is built on trust, open communication, and respect the need for these harsh shortcuts disappears.

So, where do we learn to "warm the room"? Education is all around us, waiting for us to be receptive.

We learn by reflecting on our own childhoods, consciously deciding which patterns from our parents to carry forward and which to leave behind. We learn from books, thoughtful magazines, and community programs. We learn by observing the world, listening to other parents, and absorbing the lessons hidden in everyday life.

But this learning requires us to be aware and "keep our eyes open."

The goal of this education isn't just "personality development" in the form of a child who wins competitions or achieves high grades. The true aim is to nurture their humanity. We are not just raising a successful child; we are raising a good, kind, and responsible person.

Ultimately, a good parent is, first and foremost, a good human being. Parenting is an attitude, an art of communication. It's not possible to be a difficult partner or an irresponsible person and magically be a wonderful parent.

We must accept that we will never be "perfect" parents. But we can always try to be better.

Perhaps the most profound realization is this: We often think that parenting is a one-way street where we "shape" our children. The reality is that our children are shaping us, too. The greatest parenting education happens when we allow ourselves to grow, learn, and become better people, right alongside them.
